FinancialCyclesWeekly.com #0526 -- June 26-July 2, 02005 with Tim Bost
COMMENT: We are currently in the midst of a fairly intense travel schedule, so our letter will be a bit abbreviated for the next couple of weeks. Even so, we are in a market situation now that offers abundant opportunities along with abundant challenges, and we are fully committed to developing and executing our weekly trading plans and to sharing the experience with our readers.
OIL AGAIN
The big news for stocks last week was oil. With crude climbing to over $60 a barrel, it finally seems to be dawning on investors that higher prices at the pump can have a negative impact on business profitability. Just when we thought we might get a nice little dose of irrational exuberance, a distressing issue like earnings rears its ugly head. The Dow blue chips dropped almost 300 points for the week, with the other major U.S. indices following suit.
CUTTING THE CARBS
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (KKD), a favorite of carb-hungry speculators not all that long ago, has shown six of its top executives the door. A committee on the Krispy Kreme board suggested that it might be time for the group of officers, which included four senior vice-presidents, to seek employment elsewhere. It has now been nine months since the ailing company has filed any financial statements with the SEC, and it's starting to look a lot like the firm's finances, and not just its doughnuts, are full of holes.
BUBBLE, BUBBLE, TOIL AND TROUBLE
We got word last week that (surprise!) new home sales shot up again last month, hitting their second-highest levels ever. At the same time, headline stories about the real estate bubble became much more noticeable on the covers and front pages of nationally-circulated magazines and newspapers. Oh, and by the way, even though new home sales were up, the median price for them fell sharply.
ON THE DRAWING BOARD
We now have plans on the drawing board to launch two new monthly services for our readers. Both will be available soon as free e-zines, sent directly to your email inbox. These optional services will be available by request.
The GANN PLAN ASTRO-TRADING LETTER will present tips and tidbits on the kind of trading approach that made the legendary trader W.D. Gann so successful, with a particular emphasis on the astrological and spiritual dynamics in his work and on ways to use Gann's work for innovative trading strategies today.
In PRACTICAL SPIRITUAL ASTROLOGY the emphasis will be on monthly strategies for working with astrological cycles to enhance personal and spiritual development. Like the GANN PLAN ASTRO-TRADING LETTER, it will be a brief, easy-to-read email communication arriving monthly.
Subscriptions to either e-zine, or to both of them, are absolutely free. To subscribe, log on to www.TimBost.com and select "NEWSLETTERS," then enter your contact information and newsletter preferences. You'll get an automated reply e-mail sent to the address you enter. Just respond to verify, and your subscription will begin!

THE WEEK AHEAD
This week we will be looking for earnings news from Nike (NKE), Walgreen (WAG), Paychex (PAYX), Sonic Corporation (SONC), Apollo Group (APOL), Bassett Furniture Industries (BSET), WD-40 Company (WDFC), Oracle (ORCL), General Mills (GIS), Monsanto Company (MON), ConAgra Foods, Inc. (CAG), and Biomet (BMET).
The economic calendar includes word on June Consumer Confidence, First Quarter GDP, Personal Income and Consumption for May, the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index, the June ISM Index, the final University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment figures for June, and May Construction Spending.
There are lots of eclipse activations at work this week, which should make for interesting trading. Monday alone features three of them, linking current trading to November, 2003 and April, 2004. On Friday we will get four, looking back to May, 2003, and to April of this year and ahead to next October.
The most interesting astrological dynamic this week, however, is the ingress of Saturn into Leo, both heliocentrically and by right ascension. In geocentric reckoning on the plane of the ecliptic, Saturn won't make it into Leo until July 16, which is what most market astrologers will be watching, but we wouldn't be surprised to see some of the effects of this ingress, especially in precious metals, showing up right now.
Overall, our expectation is that the equities markets will continue their sell-off as the week gets underway, but will get a strong pop to the upside on Thursday as the heliocentric Venus/Uranus opposition makes itself felt. Trading volume on Friday should be extremely light as we move into the holiday weekend, but savvy astro-traders will be watching for upside action that day as the geocentric Venus/Uranus biquintile reinforces the positive theme.
Have a great week!

SPIRITUAL FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
The greatest traders have all understood that emotional balance is the key to successful trading. Through Practical Spiritual Astrology we have an opportunity to restore inner harmony, enhance emotional balance, and make wiser choices in the markets.
At times we can gain the richest spiritual insights simply by remembering where we have been in the past. What are the sacred traditions that have shaped our hearts and our understanding? Who are the individuals and the invisible presences in our lives that we need to be more grateful for?
"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." -- Albert Schweitzer

China Yuchai International Ltd. (CYD)
NYSE; optionable
First Trade Date: 12/16/1994; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: All of the stocks we are considering this week currently have Saturn moving over the Descendant in their First-Trade horoscopes, making them candidates for price appreciation. In some cases, however, we may see a brief price pull-back first, presenting us with a distinct buying opportunity. With CYD, for example, we not only have transiting Saturn conjoining the First-Trade Descendant and transiting Pluto conjoining the First-Trade Sun, but also the speculative energy of Neptune quincunx First-Trade Vulcanus. Our plan is to enter a limit order to buy CYD at 12.00 early this week, setting an initial stop at 11.00.
Compuware Corporation (CPWR)
NASDAQ; optionable
First Trade Date: 12/16/1992; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: With transiting Saturn conjoining the First-Trade Descendant and transiting Pluto conjoining the First-Trade Sun and CPWR moving toward support in a trading channel, there's a lot to attract our attention here. CPWR also has transiting Chiron square First-Trade Poseidon and the transiting Saturn/Vulcanus midpoint conjoining First-Trade Mars, with the positive kicker of a Jupiter return as well. We plan to add a long position to the Model Portfolio early this week, setting our initial stop at 6.29.
Parker Hannifin Corporation (PH)
NYSE; optionable
First Trade Date: 12/09/1964; 10:00 a.m.
Trading Strategy: PH not only has transiting Saturn crossing the First-Trade Descendant, but also transiting Kronos conjoining First-Trade Vulcanus and transiting Neptune conjoining the First-Trade Moon and sextile the First-Trade Sun. This combination brings enough speculative energy to the mix for us to consider a long position at this time. Our expectation, however, is that PH will pull back slightly before it makes an upward move, so we plan to buy with a GTC limit order set at 57.65, with the expectation that we will be adding a position to the Model Portfolio at some point this week. Once the position has been initiated, we will set a stop at 56.50.
Planar Systems Inc. (PLNR)
NASDAQ; optionable
First Trade Date: 12/16/1993; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: Along with transiting Saturn conjoining the First-Trade Descendant and transiting Pluto conjoining the First-Trade Sun, PLNR has transiting Uranus in opposition to First-Trade Chiron, suggesting that some volatile price action right now could feel horrible but ultimately bring wonderful results. This stock has had some trouble lately trying to break through its 50-day moving average, but still seems to be finding decent support at around 7.20 to 7.25. Our plan is thus to add a long position early this week, setting our initial stop at 7.05.
