FinancialCyclesWeekly.com #0439 – September 26-October 2, 2004 with Tim Bost

COMMENT: In our astrological commentary last week, we noted that the weekend’s Chiron station “could skew the other astrological dynamics at work. Our sense of the situation is that if we get a choppy market or a slight decline toward the end of this trading week, the Chiron station will snap the rally back into place.”
That’s what we’re looking for now. Mars/Jupiter dynamics this week, along with the continuing impact of the Sun/Mars conjunction leading up to a Sun/Zeus conjunction near the end of the week, suggest quite strongly that we will see some positive moves in the equities markets.

Shaken, Not Stirred
It’s another story for bonds, of course. While stocks have essentially been in an optimistic frame of mind since early August, the bond market has been far more cautious. The yields on 10-year Treasuries have fallen quite sharply, dropping from roughly 4.6 percent at the end of July to around 4.1 percent today.
The bond picture suggests a fairly pessimistic view of the economy, which also seems to be supported by disappointing government numbers and by a rash of negative earnings reports. But the stock market, at least until last week, has been euphorically blind to all that. Perhaps stock traders are just in a Neptunian haze. Neptune might also be the reason why we should keep an eye on the record highs in oil prices; the climb in crude seems to be the only thing that will bring the stock market back down to earth.

A Big Event in Denver
We spent much of last week in Denver, Colorado, attending back-to-back workshops for Fibonacci Trader and Galactic Trader, sponsored by P.A.S. The first event drew well over 100 traders from around the world, while the second one filled a smaller room with an enthusiastic group. Dennis Bolze gave an excellent presentation on money management and demonstrated the use of the software in real time trading, and Ted Phillips spent some time going over his astrological approach to trading.
What impressed us the most was how much growing interest there is in astro-trading. Many of the traders who have strong backgrounds in technical analysis are actively expressing interest in planetary market factors, while those who are already committed to the astrological perspective are clearly willing to get involved in deeper studies and advanced refinements.

A Jupiter Void
Our good friend and colleague Georgia Stathis, author of the groundbreaking book Business Astrology 101, was also on hand for the Galactic Trader workshop in Denver. She commented that much of the lackluster energy we were seeing in the markets, as well as the general sense of fatigue in everyday situations, has probably been connected with Jupiter being void-of-course. That situation ended late last Friday when Jupiter moved into Libra, so perhaps we’ll now see a renewed willingness to get up and go, in and out of the markets!

THE WEEK AHEAD

This week will bring earnings reports from Walgreen Company (WAG), Pepsi Bottling (PBG), Entegris, Inc. (ENTG), Solectron Corporation (SLR), Micron Technology (MU), McCormick & Company (MKC), Actuant Corporation (ATU), Emmis Communications (EMMS), Ferrellgas Partners (FGP), Family Dollar Stores (FDO), Research In Motion (RIMM), Pepsico (PEP), Constellation Brands (STZ), NDCHealth Corporation (NDC), and Lawson Software (LWSN).
It’s an extremely busy week for economic reports, with word coming out on New and Existing Home Sales, Consumer Confidence, Initial Jobless Claims, GDP, Personal Income, Personal Spending, the Help-Wanted Index, Auto Sales, Truck Sales, Construction Spending, the ISM Index, the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Report, and the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index. Many of these are important to keep an eye on, but the most critical number this week is likely to be Consumer Confidence, since the weakest part of the economic recovery is currently consumer spending. While the expectation is for some improvement in this area, a disappointing number could provoke a very strong negative reaction in the trading environment.
The astrological picture this week is framed by Mars and Jupiter. The two planets meet in conjunction geocentrically on Sunday night, about 13 hours before Monday’s opening bell. Then on Friday morning, before the market action gets underway, Mars and Jupiter will conjoin heliocentrically. With a Kronos retrograde station in the middle of the trading day on Friday, we could see an extraordinarily powerful finish to the trading week, with a market trend clearly established.
There are several lunar void-of-course periods this week, but they all come outside of regular trading hours for the New York markets. That means we’ll need to pay close attention to what should be a very exciting time for trading. Have a great week!

SPIRITUAL FOCUS FOR THE WEEK

The greatest traders have all understood that emotional balance is the key to successful trading. Through Practical Spiritual Astrology we have an opportunity to restore inner harmony, enhance emotional balance, and make wiser choices in the markets.

We may start to feel like the wind is going out of our sails as we try to push ahead, but we can still take successful action if we are fully ready to receive the divine abundance that is available to us now.

"And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh." - Friedrich Nietzsche

STOCKS TO WATCH: CRDN, EBAY, PDCO, ZBRA.

Ceradyne Inc. (CRDN)
NASDAQ; Optionable
First Trade Date: 07/18/1984; 10:00 a.m.
Trading Strategy: Transiting Saturn is making the first of three geocentric conjunctions with the Ceradyne First-Trade Sun (the other two come in December and June), suggesting that a buying opportunity may be setting up. The situation gains some reinforcement from transiting Pluto sesquiquadrate the CRDN First-Trade Venus, so we’re planning to add a long position to the Model Portfolio this week. We’re expecting the current conjunction of Mars (G,90,N,-2) and Jupiter (G,90,N,-2) to hold support for CRDN at about 41.40; unless we get a close below that point on Monday we will use it as our initial stop in entering our trade.

eBay Inc. (EBAY)
NASDAQ; Optionable
First Trade Date: 09/24/1998; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: The stock for the online auction giant has started to look a little toppy lately as some analysts have moved it from a “buy” to a “hold” while transiting Jupiter is conjoining the First-Trade Sun. That First-Trade Sun is also picking up a powerful square from transiting Kronos as well, however, so we aren’t expecting a sharp downturn any time soon. With the transiting True Lunar Node conjoining First-Trade Saturn, this looks like a good opportunity to take up a long position. Monday’s square between Venus (G,90,N,-2) and Admetos (G,90,N,-2) will be particularly hot in defining the price action for this stock, since EBAY has been finding consistent support and resistance on those planetary lines. A natal planetary line for Poseidon (G,21.59,N,0) is also providing some key support for this stock, so we’ll be using it to set our initial stop at 88.50 when we enter a long position this week.

Patterson Companies Inc. (PDCO)
NASDAQ; Optionable
First Trade Date: 10/28/1992; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: PDCO has put in a very solid performance during the past 18 months or so; now, with its Jupiter Return coming up, the Patterson Board of Directors has just voted for a 2-for-1 stock split and share repurchase program. A geocentric line for the Sun (G,90,N,-2) has defined recent resistance for this stock, with a planetary line for Admetos (G,90,N,-2) setting up support. With Monday’s Venus/Admetos square and Thursday’s Sun/Zeus conjunction bringing both of those planetary lines into prominence this week, we’ll be looking for support to hold at 73.42 to confirm our entry into a long position. Our initial stop will be set at 72.55.

Zebra Technologies Corporation Class A (ZBRA)
NASDAQ; Optionable
First Trade Date: 08/15/1991; 09:30 a.m.
Trading Strategy: ZBRA has shown great momentum during the past five or six weeks, thanks at least partially to transiting Pluto square the ZBRA First-Trade Mars. And right now, with transiting Kronos on the First-Trade Midheaven and the Sun, Mars and Jupiter all crossing the First-Trade Ascendant, that momentum shows little sign of slowing! Our plan is to add a long position in ZBRA to the Model Portfolio early this week; we’ll set our initial stop just below the first-harmonic line for Admetos (G,360,N,-2) at 58.10.
